My emmisions dash light has come on. Can you tell me why and what part or parts might need to be replaced to correct this problem.

Thank you!

If it runs well relax for now if an amber light. You probably need to retrieve the code it's remembering. If it's not running well tell us and hurry to fix it as that will just make things worse if you just keep running.

Tom,

The truck is running well. I remember going thru a deep puddle and having a great deal of water splash up under my engine compartment and this is when the light came on and has not gone out. It has been on for months.

Being that this truck is a 1986 does it have a port to retrive the codes? If not, any guess what needs to be replaced in order for the light to go out.

The code could be had for free I think at AutoZone and some other places like it. It could be misleading especially for 1986 and it should have a funny trapazoid connection/plug on drivers side that just hangs there under the hood. I know the cars better than the trucks but I'd bet it's there, T

Ps: Don't disconnect the battery as codes will be lost for a time if you can get one read. They sell for about $25bucks code readers for Fords at Wally World but make sure it you do that it covers your truck. They are are PIA and you spend more time reading the instruction and the book which is really what you get to get a code. You count blinks in the light and need to convert blinks to #s, t

See if this site is any help. It describes how to pull codes without a tool and farther down the page it gives the years and code number description. http://www.troublecodes.net/Ford/

Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds
