The 1976 olds ninety with 400+ motor was running good before I gave it a jump start because of a weak battery. I accidently put positive cable on negative post and negative cable on positive post. There was a big spark. Now there is absolutely no power to the car-no radio, no lights, etc. , even though the battery has been checked to be in excellent condition. It has to be an electrical problem, but where? A circuit breaker in the engine compartment? A fuse under the dash?

Hard to say. Reading between lines the battery state of charge was low so you jumped it. That or connections bad. New battery alone may not be fully charged. I don't know how battery tested "excellent" but if so and fully charged and you have no power to anything now I'd take a hard look at the cable ends of side post batteries especially as they can rot right out and be the weakest link.

So - If battery is charged now, follow current to starter on positive terminal and see if current is at the starter solenoid. Another may go to alternator directly and be a fused link but I don't think that will stop all electrical anything.

You'll have to have a known good charged battery with good connections at both ends of both battery cables to further diagnose unless one is the trouble now? Might be. That is if this behaves now like there's no battery in it at all,
