Merry Christmas to you too. Hey - some personal issues ongoing so may not be able to follow up with you but I'll give it a shot.

First question is has the battery been disconnected for any reason right before this? If so then it's possibly the car trying to "re-learn" and will after a while.

Next is to get a code reading. That isn't perfect all the time but can lead the way. Also could be dirty idle air control "IAC" and computer is at the limits of compensating the idle for that.

If there was anything recent done, check that everything is put back properly and all is plugged in. Integrity of the air intake can cause erratic idle, vacuum leaks, and things like a CTS = coolant temp sensor may be telling the car it's already warmed up when it's not. Sometimes just the plug to that gets a bad connection.

There are a lot of things it could be. If your service engine soon light is on there's definitely something to tell you but even if not there could be stored info not quite enough but it's watching and will tell you with the right code reading.

One more: A low mile car of the age might just be exposed to too much only poking around town type of use and needs a good run.

Hey - most of the techs are probably not busy at the site today so hang in there and others may have some suggestions.

Good luck,

T

Thanks for the response Tom. I did plug the car into my code reader but nothing was found. I have only visually checked vacume hoses and electrical connections and everything looks in order. This is a very well maintained daily driver wich sees about 800 highway miles a month. The car idles, drives, and runs completely normal. Thats been the hard part of the troubleshooting. It dies 3-4 times a week. When it does die, it doesn't sputter or anything. It just shuts of like the key was turned off. Fires right back up and runs fine the rest of the day. Oh yeah. To answer your question, the battery has not been disconnected for any reason. This is my my girlfriends car and she says it only happens after first start up of the day. To be be honest i didn't detect alot of confidence in her voice when she stated that.Smile It is happening about 3 times a week... Tom I just noticed I entered the wrong amount of milage in my first post. It has 90k on it and sees about 500 mi a month on the highway.

OK: This will be my last post most likely today. With this info I'd be checking that fuel pressure is up to par and holds. Intermittent can be Pandora's box to find. If same, swap things like an A/C relay for the one for fuel pump - things like that.

Code readers are not created equal. Some cost thousands! With the CEL or "check" light on there's a hard code. Without there's possibly still info in there which you may not find.

In that it's capable of running well is a good sign. Might be very hard to isolate cause with intermittent problems as said.

I'm inland West of Boston expecting a nasty Blizzard - if forecasts correct is near certain to cause power outages never mind cleaning up the snow. I happens here but early season ones are a real pestMad -- oh well,

T
