2007
chevy
uplander
3900 v6
130,000

This problem started with the van running rough and idling bad, also surging while going down the road. After a few days of that it started going into the reduced engine power, which cut power to almost nothing. shutting the van off would reset the reduced power.

I took to shop and he said codes said acc. pedal sensor and throttle posission sensor. he replaced accell. pedal because it was the less cost. took for test ride and still went to reduced power mode. He then took off air intake to throttle body and cleaned the throat and disk area. The van ran great after that for about 3 weeks. (I travel approx. 1000 mi per week). The van then started the surging, minor roughness and shut down with the reduced engine power mode. I took off air intake tube and wiped out myself and the van ran good for about a week. Been doing that for about 6 weeks. Back to shop and he said codes said throttle sensor, he then replaced the gasket on the back side of throttle. That had the same result. Wiping out disk area will have the van running good for a while.

My question is do you think this is a dirt problem or could the disk be slightly sticking and moving it frees it up. If replacing throttle do you think dirt will still be problem? I did replace the air filter with no change.

Note: when cleaning there is not a lot of dirt/soot on rag but wiping out sure fixes for a while.

Has anyone out there heard of anything like this?

Thanks in advance.

Well, that's reliable diagnostic strategy.

No, never heard of that before. Do your codes still come back? If so, what are the actual code numbers?
