06 Impala Wiper Blades and Rear Doors Sign In

Ok, I have 2 issues with my 2006 Chevy Impala LS.

1.) About a week ago, while driving to Sandusky (a good hour drive), it was raining, so I had my wipers on. About half way through the drive, my wind shield wipers got stuck in the upright position. I stopped at a gas station, and was able to push the blades back down. I tried to flick my wipers and got no movement out of them, but I could hear the motor run for them. So what I need to know about this issue, is how do I reach the motor for my wipers and what could possibly be the issue. The mechanic at work told me it might be as simple as the clip that holds the wipers to the motor could have came off. Its one of those things I'd like to do myself if possible especially with winter beginning to loom.

Please stick to one problem per question. It gets much too hard to follow. You can start another question for the other problem.

You're not going to know the answer to that until you remove the cowling cover and examine the motor and linkage.

Your mechanic is probably on the right track.

You'll have to remove the wiper arms and cowl grille inlet panels to get access to the wiper motor and transmission to see what happened and what needs to be replaced.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Well, instead of doing all that, pull the wiper caps off and see if the hold down bolt is moving. If it is you most likely have bad wiper arms.

It really doesn't sound good that you forced them down though, and to be honest it'd be strange if both wipers stopped at the same time. I'd bet that some part of the linkage in the wiper transmission has gone bad.

The wipers didn't both strip at the same time and the linkage has been suggested twice already.
