When I go out to my car to warm it up, abd turn heat on... My car warms up but the vents blow out cold air until I start driving...But wheb im idling no heat. And this weekend my thermostat on my dash board webt over the center where it usually warms up too, it bounces over 2 bars theb comes back down like 10 seconds later. It never done this before, and its making me nervous especislly I start a new job tomorrow and I need my vehicle... I dont see no smoke coming from engine...Just no heat, and it goes over two bars and comes back down.... Any replies will be very appreciated thank you!

Sounds like you have air pockets in the system, likely due to a coolant leak somewhere. You need to get the system full and then have it pressure tested to find the leak. Don't drive it this way as you will do severe engine damage. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

What's more important to you, getting to work tomorrow or not having to possibly replace the engine in your car? It might be safe to drive if it was completely filled with coolant and all the air pockets removed but there's a chance you won't accomplish that. It shouldn't cost much to get it checked. Many shops will check it for free these days.

You'd better make sure you get it filled up all the way with coolant first. You can lose the motor in a heartbeat. I can't tell you how many times I presented and estimate over $4,000 to someone that said, I had to get where I was going.

Make sure you check your coolant level in the morning. Even in 10 miles you can burn up an engine. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Just make sure it is DEX-COOL (orange). Prestone makes 50/50, so you don't have to mix water. Stay away from that universal stuff. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Just a quick note......As DS said, that should have Dex cool in it (orange). Check your reservoir, if it's been switched over to the regular coolant (green) add that for now.....Don't mix the 2.........

That's cheaper than a new engine if you cook that one.

What's Pep boys labor rate? I have 1.4 hr to change pump. They charging a diagnostic fee? Water pump is somewhere around $80. Seems a little high to me. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

It's the cross over gaskets, tell pep boys to enjoy putting them in for free after the waterpump. I've never seen that engine leak coolant aywhere but there. I've got a lot of small shop comebacks who replaced water pump, hoses, front cover gasket....not saying it doesn't happen, but I'd have them double check.
