Intermittent starting problem. While engine still warm from use (stop briefly: fuel, store, etc.) engine cranks fine, no fire. While holding accelerator to the floor, it will eventually start. Vehicle runs excellent otherwise, brand new battery. My first thought is: fuel filter? Suggestions? Thanks in advance. LOU

You've been around here long enough to know that we don't simply take wild guesses at these things.

Here is the troubleshooting procedure for this.

All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be tested during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment.
If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money.

Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for.

These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause.

1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on.

2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on.

3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off.

4) If all of these things check good, then you would need to do a complete compression test.

Once you have determined which of these functions has dropped out,
you will know which system is having the problem.

When it's not starting you need to go through the no start checks that HT posted.

One other you should also check is coolant temp sensor. If the sensor reading gets skewed a bit to the cold side it can affect a warm restart. basically it adds to much fuel thinking it's colder than it really is and floods the engine out. It would be the same as trying to start a warm engine with the choke on.

An easy check for this would be to go out the next morning after the car has sat all night and look at the coolant temp reading with a scan tool. It should read the same as what the outside temp is. So if it's 50° out and your temp reading is 25°, then you found your problem.

Another thing to check would be a purge valve stuck open. An easy way to do this is to remove the hose from the fuel tank side of the purge valve while the engine is warmed up and idling. If you have vacuum at the purge valve, it is stuck open. this will cause the engine to be too rich. Holding the throttle to the floor puts it in "Clear flood mode," and allows it to clear the excess fuel or fumes, so it can start.
