0302 code

0302 code Sign In

2009 town and country
205,000 miles
3.8 engine
had a ruff idel and van seemed to be running real ruff
got a 0302 code which said number 2 missfire
whats the cheapest thing i can do to start on firstmy nephew told me to change the coil pack ?????

If you are sure it's #2 then see what's missing for that one. Takes spark, fuel and compression to make it fire. Which one is missing it has 205K could be surprise things.
It doesn't mean new coil quite yet. Some you could see flaws or mist (not soaked) with water and watch the stray spark NOT fire to that cylinder. Don't soak a hot anything, just a mist or done when cold you might see it?

I would first take a compression test on that cylinder. If you find reasonable compression, then swap that coil with one that is easy to access and clear the codes.

Now drive it until the check engine light comes on again. Check the code and see if you get a code for a different cylinder now. If you do, replace that coil that you moved.
