02 focus, dohc, wont start after various symptoms

OK. I just got back into town. My wife's 99 Ford focus was doing the following.
Shaking a ton at idle and not as bad while running, but still bad. It was also making a loud hissing notice, which I found to be a vacuum hose problem. I replaced this and the hissing stopped. It has a strong odor of gas now, and it takes orever to get up to speed. I literally had the gas pedal to the floor and was going 15 MPH. Once the car gets up to about 55, it is fine. The other day we ran a code check because the engine light was on for months. It indicated a misfire in the 2 nd cylander. Cheked the spark plug, it was bad on cylander 2. Changed it and also ran a new plug wire. The car at this point started running betterfor about 2 hours. Then all the problems restarted. Sh was in it the other day, and it died on an onranp to the hwy. Since then, it will not start. It cranks but wont start. Heavy smell of gas outside the car, and seemed to be a small leakage of gritty black water out the exhausted. I'm not too mechanically inclined. If I missed anything or need more info please ask. Wereally need the car it is our only car. Thank you.

Seeing that #2 plug was fouled I would guess #2 injector is stuck open . my second guess is a bad diaphram on the fuel presssure regulator . Pull the vac hose and chesk for fuel in line. To verify inj . swap with a different cylinder . If that cyl now gets wet youve nailed the injector

Could these symptoms be a result of a clogged fuel pump and filter? There is a recall on the fyuel pump because it clogged the filter and pump. I don't know if the vehicle ever received the recall part because it was bought used. Any idea how I can verify if it received it? I have the vin number...

Anything is posible. call dealer with vin and ask if recall is about your car and was it done.
