2002, VW Jetta GLS, 2.0L

I went to a music festival this summer, it rained the whole weekend, so the dirt road turned into this giant mud hole, I bottomed my car out numerous times trying to get in and out of the grounds. After i was back on paved roads, i pulled over to asses the damage.
As the car was idling it suddenly began to vibrate, so i opened up the hood and found that it would vibrate like this when my rad fan turned on. I turned the car off and pulled on the radiator to find the bottom of it was lose. I'm fairly certain that whatever fastens the radiator onto the car was either bent, or fell off during the off-road adventure.

My questions are, what is used to hold the bottom of radiator to the frame of the car (bolt, bracket, ect...)?, and if i look for a replacement part online, what technical term, for the part, would I search for to find what I need?

Any guidance would be appreciated

Best regards,

Mark

If you bottomed out that hard , you probably have done structual damage . The core support assy is rather light weight metal .You would be smart to have a a shop put car on a lift and give it a good inspection .

I have, and all I was told is that, I need to buy the support assembly, and they will instal it for me(although that sounds like something I can do myself). I wasn't given any information on where to get it(I try to avoid the VW dealership as to not get totally ripped off). All I need right now is to just get pointed in the right direction.

Thanks

Mark

Try a few junkyards. You also have to be sure that the radiator is not leaking. If it is don't try to repair the leak. it will be temporary at best and under pressure won't hold. So all that means is while you're at the junk yard pick-up another radiator.

Unless you are well equipped and experienced, I wouldn't recommend trying this. It is the major anchor and support point for the engine, suspension, steering and fluid lines. The engine has to be supported from the top and completely disconnected along with everything else.

Re: 02 Jetta GLS radiator damaged Sign In

I feel like we are drifting away from a basic issue here... I know enough about cars to tell you that, no there is NO structural damage to the car, NO the radiator is not leaking. I dont NOT need to replace a radiator... My only issue is the bottom support is no longer there, and all I need to know is, is it a bracket that is used to mount it, or a bolt, and is there a website I could order this part on.

lets not makes this any more complicated than it needs to be

Thanks

THe core support IS a stuctualpart of the car .you cannot replace just the bottom .it is a welded assy . heres a pic. yours may be slightly different ,depends on eng . GOOD LUCK
