01 Pontiac Sunfire jerking when "Shifting Gears"

Hi, we've got a 2001 pontiac sunfire. I'm not familiar with the correct terms, so please bear with me. ^^
What happens is, when you drive below ~30 MPH, everything is fine.
When the car "Shifts" into the "Next gear" (I think thats the right term) at around 35-45MPH, the car JERKS back REALLY hard for a couple seconds, but then is fine while you're in that gear, and when slowing down.. So, everytime you go from a lower "Gear" to a higher "gear", it jerks bad.. And progressively gets worse, as you drive it that day.
We took it into the shop to get it fixed, and we're not sure what they did, but it stayed fixed for about a week.
We took it back in, and they said they dont know why it started again, but they think it's a cable in the front of the hood, a cable that has a big round yellow plug on the end.
They say there are 2 of those plugs in the car, one on top, and 1 buried down (I think they said in the transmission).. They said that the "pins" in the plugs are probably bent, and unplugging it, and replugging it in, temporarily fixes it (??)
Do you have any idea what this yellow plug is called? and any possible fix? Or if this is even the problem?
I've done a ton of research and no idea so far :/

Check engine light on?
You should take it back and have them recheck it. If you paid to have them check it out and to perform some kind of repair, that would be considered a comeback. That means they have to re-diagnose it for free.
Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I think the better question is... when is the check engine light not on? lol

They charged us 115$ the first time (Where it was fixed for a week)
They didnt charge us the second time.
He said that if unplugging and plugging it back in doesn't fix it, the pins on the yellow cord may be bent, and he could try rebending them (which he didnt do) and if that didnt fix it, he could have to tear into the transmission which could cost around 400-1400$ depending...
Which.. that car is so crappy, it's not even worth that at all.
So i was wondering if anyone else had another opinion..
Since before this guy, we took it to a BIGGER company, and they said that we needed a new front torque motor mount put on.. And that is what was making it jerk when you shifted.
But this second place said that that was definately not the problem.
So since people IRL fail me (on a constant basis) I figure i'd ask the internet what they thought :/

The Sunfire for that year either came with a 2.2L or a 2.4L DOHC and a 3 or 4 speed transaxle. Need to know that information.
What are the code numbers that it is storing? Don't know what you mean by yellow cord. Yellow plugs on a GM usually denote air bag system connectors.
Do you mean the electrical plug on the transaxle itself?
