01 Jetta has left knocking sound in 1st & rev Sign In

2001 VW Jetta Glx 6.0 150k. I noticed a sound in 1st gear mainly when I am turning and it sounds like it's on the driver side. I had a mechanic replace the cv joint but the knocking is still there. This happens in reverse as well but not when I turning in any other gear. since it's not the cv joint what else could this be?

Ok, I will check that. Is the mounting something I can see, being a total rookie, if I looked under the car? Something I Think what I hear is a spring that is maybe too tight? not really even sure if there is any springs that's just what it made me think of today.
I have another question, and actually will probably have a few, I've only had this car for 3 weeks! the trunk doesn't open when I use the remote. I can hear it trying to open but it doesn't. any quick fix for this? The door button doesn't work either. It has a key hole and I put the key in but it doesn't change anything.
Thanks, I will let you know about the mounting.

A knocking noise is something real tough to figure out online. It's something you really need to see & hear 1st hand just because there is so many different things that could cause this....

Checking motor mounts takes a little know how & exerience. It might be better to have someone who is familiar with this to check it out.

If you trunk isn't opening at all (if I read that right) it may just be jammed. Try pushing down on the truck lid and then turn the key to open it and see if you can pull it open. It that works the lock may need to be readjusted.....Once again....It's not difficult but does take a little experience with latches......

Thank you for the response and I think it's a wheel barring (sp?) that probably should have been replaced at the same time as the cv joint. this is my next step. How important is a heated oxygen sensor? I mean what does it control?Unsure

Yes that definitely would've been the the time to do the wheel bearing.....Hopefully you get it fixed.....

A heated O2 is fairly important...... This isn't something that is going to leave you stranded. It's main job is to keep the O2 sensor at peak efficiency. With a bad heater there could be some fuel control issues and over a long period of time could do damage to the the catalytic converter.

Most heater problems will turn on the light so if you have to smog the car that would probably be the most pressing need.....

I've searched wheel bearings and it's a little confusing. it's my drivers side, should I replace both at the same time? and what exactly or close to exactly do I order for this.
