My 2000 Chev Impala 3.4 has a bad steering fluid leak, at about 32oz. every 4 days. I applied a dye to locate the leak. I have a minor seepage at the steering column at rack and pinion that has been there since I bought the car, so I imagine this is not the issue. I found a major puddle on my frame below the belt, but due to the belt and the pumps/compressors I cannot see where the leaks are coming from. Is it something as simple as a hose that I cannot see, or something more expensive?

It could be any of those things but you're going to have to pinpoint the source to find out. Get a can of brakekleen and clean the area up good and then start the car. If you put dye in the car, it should be completely obvious with the glasses and u/v light.

i am new here but not new to cars. on the impala and w body cars they have a small 6 inch piece of hose on the return line right over the cradle where you have a leak these hoses are bad for leaking take the right side tire off and look in right behind the strut and you will be able to see it. clean it off and se if you can se a leak if not have someone else get in the car and turn the wheels all the way to one side to increase the pressure and you should see the leak that piece of hose is fairly easy to replace. i double clamp both ends of the hose. i think there may even be a recall on these hoses. hope that helps a little.
