trouble code Sign In

Hi everyone this is a 04 civic 1.7 the code is p0128 it says coolant temperature below threshold. what exactly is this. could this be an open thermostat problem.

IDK for sure about needing a thermostat but it thinks it's taking too long to reach operating temperature either really isn't or fails to see it by sensor. I'd check actual temperature of coolant leaving thermostat when known it should be fully warmed up with an IR thermometer. Generally housing for thermostat becomes very close to it's listed rating,

Yes, it needs a thermostat. It's not reaching sufficient temperature to satisfy the computer.
