smoke out of 92 sable engine Sign In

hey guys, stupid car stressing me out. So I got smoke coming out of the engine, mostly from the left side of the engine (where the drive belt is). I can't tell what it is. There was excessive smoke coming out of the exhaust for a little bit then it went back to normal if that has to do with anything.

More info: I just replaced the cracked rad that I had. Never had this problem before. I mean the car did smoke but that was the coolant overheating (replaced fan as well), this smoke is completely different. Strong smelling gave me a headache when I walked back in. That's why I think it can be tranny oil, because there are lines connecting to the rad that I had to take off. But the smoke seemed to come out of the engine so it might be oil. And I did a compression test on the engine and I didn't detect a head gasket leak, all the cylinders were 140- 160 psi.

Could be an oil leak getting on the exhaust system or any number of things. Hard to give you an answer without looking at it. Maybe you should swing into a shop and have them take a look.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

#1 You should change your user name to something other than an address - your question will stay there.

If that smoke really came OUT the tailpipe after this overheating spell that is damning for head gasket or even head problems. The compression test is just one test not proof it's good.

The issue with trans fluid and radiator: That even if it did mix up still shouldn't be available to burn in engine and if it can do that you'd see it in coolant or trans fluid without much room to be wrong. If/when that can happen it's real trouble on trans and cooling system. New radiator it's not so likely IMO,
