rough start

87, ford escort ,idles rough ,sometimes dies and needs restart when cold
but runs after it warms up
could this be the idle air valve or clogged injector ?
also idles between 850 and 1200 rpms when its warmed up

Kind of sounds like a vacuum leak, too much (false/un-metered) air being allowed into the engine.
During start up and during warm up this “leak” could be causing the engine to run to lean and stall out. After the engine warms it doesn’t need as much fuel and the possible vacuum leak is causing the high RPM due to the false air getting into the engine.
