Hi, 2000 celica gt 1ZZ fe engine. had rebuilt, new everything on head and bottom end. Once engine was back in the sucker wont start! I now have huge fuel pressure issue with fuel spraying over the whole engine, checked injectors and seats all good just WAY TOO much fuel pressure, have spark could this be a timing issue? if cams are not set right could this be the problem? REALLY NEED HELP! Unsure

What is the fuel pressure?

i dont have a gauge but, based upon the fuel gooing everywere i would say its safe to say over 20PSI or greater then!

You can't say that you have too much fuel pressure if you don't even know what the pressure is.

Re: rebuilt engine, put in now fuel pressure way too high wont start Sign In

true but, when the fuel is absolutly going EVERY WERE and at a rate not seen before rebuild i know its WAY too high! The injectors have new O"rings and seats. They are placed correctly into there location. As soon as i turnt he key to start and crank even one revolution there is fuel all over the engine and down the block. KEY OFF NO FUEL? I EVEN PINCHED OFF THE FUEL LINE AND STILL FUEL WAS SPRAYING EVERYWERE. I will buy a gauge ( cant believe i dont have one!) to check the pressure but, i know this amount isnt right! Could incorrect timing on these cause this issue? Engine cranks just fine no stumble no issue turning over just the fuel is drowning the engine now!

Yeup, big puddle under the car, all over the block, chocked off the fuel line STILL had fuel going everywere! Fuel is spraying from the injectors and all have new O"rings and seats they are placed into the head correctly and seated fine just WAY too much fuel pressure! New engine and still havent been able to fire the sucker up! cranks fine just wont stop sprewing fuel, has spark!

No, you don't know that you have too much fuel pressure and you probably don't.

If you are determined to do things your way then no one is going to waste time trying to help you. First off, you can't check fuel pressure with a "dead end". You have to "tee" into the system to read it. This system calls for 44 to 50PSI so until you actually get an actual pressure reading, don't expect too much help.

Re: rebuilt engine, put in now fuel pressure way too high wont start Sign In

Fine, I have a pressure gauge, I will tee into the line, if fuel pressure is greater then the 55 mentioned what then? I wont watse your time or any one elses here i am simple looking for suggestions and guidance! surely some out there has experianced this before and have a simple solution! What if the pressure is fine and still no fire? last night I tore the front cover off again and re-posistioned the timeing on the crank to cams. Seems the cams are hard to turn but, only at one point of the rotation? Cams are torqued to 115 inch pounds and main cap to 17 ftlbs. would incorrect set valves cause cam skip? Yes I checked the cam chain tensioner it is not locked in it is working fine. I can turn the engine over fine by hand in several revolutions with no binding. Ready to burn the sucker down!

1st you need to fix that fuel leak. There is a problem somewhere and it's very doubtful its a pressure problem.

You need to find out where the fuel is coming from & fix it. If it's just coming from the injectors then you damaged the O rings putting them in, have bad injectors, wrong parts, etc.......... Something

I'm not sure how you checked for spark but until you get that fuel leak fixed you need to disable the ign or you will "burn that sucker down"

Re: rebuilt engine, put in now fuel pressure way too high wont start Sign In

Thank you for the reply!!Cool I pulled # one plug and rested on engine block, cranked engine saw plenty of spark. I also checked with spark plug tester to insure spark on others. ( did old school then new school check) I pulled the injectors and determined the o rings were not damaged, possible the kit i bought had faulty o rings? Seems the cams also want to bind at one point? 17ftlbs on the main cap 115 inch lbs on others torqued in correct sequence. could that cause issue? if i pull 44 to 50 psi on the pressuer and still no fire and get the fuel stopped from spraying any suggestions on no fire? My daughters car and i look the fool right now! PLEASE help me to look the hero to my daughter!

Re: rebuilt engine, put in now fuel pressure way too high wont start Sign In

1st things 1st..... Seriously you need to get that fuel leak fixed 1st..... That would be your top priority.

Ive seen more that one engine fire to due fuel leaks,,,,,some very bad ones,,,,,some burned to the ground, one also caught the house on fire.

With all that liquid fuel all over the engine & ground, one small spark from anywhere & you're done.

I'm not there so I can't tell. You need to see where exactly the fuel is coming from. Dry everything off, an air nozzle will blow it dry. With a quick key on, engine off (using safety glasses) you need to pinpoint the exact leak. If the source is the injectors. Then something is wrong. Wrong parts, bad injectors,,,,something.

The injectors should've been a tight fit, they shouldn't have just "popped" right in.

With a correctly sealed system, that pump can't generate enough pressure to cause a leak.

You should have a fire extinguisher close by.

It's possible you may have other issues that need to be resolved to get it running but you need to make is safe before running any other tests.......especially ones that are testing for spark.........

If I had to guess I would say you have the wrong O rings in there. But double check both of them, the tops ones & bottom ones...

we aren't going to answer a whole bunch of "what if's". That's not the way we work. We systematically isolate the issue and then troubleshoot the problem.

Are you working on this thing in a garage? If so, you might want to move it outside away from your house if you have gasoline spraying everywhere and your throwing sparks checking the ignition system. No sense in burning your house or neighborhood down.

well thanks to Monster i was able to source fuel issue, thats resolved. Now engine cranks has spark but wont fire. is getting correct fuel while cranking now pressure sits at 49 psi. Cam sensor or crank sensor be faulty? how do you check for this? Volt meter under crank or ignition on only?

Two little nicks in two seperate injector O rings. That problem is solved ( nicks were so small i didnt see them at first) now it cranks just fine spark but no fire? could this be Cam sensor VVT valve sensor? Crank sensor? Cam positoning sensor? how do you checl that? key on and test for voltage? Or should i have the engine cranking and test?

LOLCool detached garage doors wide open, catching the fuel in a pad ( a spill pad for just this reason ) lots of fire extingushers. But thanks for the concern! safety first!Wink

The crank sensor is working because you stated that you have spark.

Just for the heck of it run a compression check on it. Disable the fuel injectors and ignition when running the compression check.

Re: rebuilt engine, put in now fuel pressure way too high wont start Sign In

This is the diagnostic procedure..........

All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be tested during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment.
If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money.

Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for.

These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause.

1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on.

2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on.

3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off.

4) If all of these things check good, then you would need to do a complete compression test.

Once you have determined which of these functions has dropped out,
you will know which system is having the problem.

Re: rebuilt engine, put in now fuel pressure way too high wont start Sign In

Believe me I have seen new engines with no compression because someone installed a chain or belt wrong, had gotten cams switched, or valve lash too tight. Happens a lot believe it or not.
