got a 1999 ford f150 triton v8 with the 4.6 engine. just cant seem to find the problem with it. idles rough to the point it trys to die but when I give it gas it smooths out. runs good but when stopping at red light it starts running rough again. buddy told me it may be my catalitic converter going bad and when I give it gas it blows pressure out but at idle the pressure is backing up. just dont know where to start. people tell me to check the codes but I dont have the equiptment to do that. and then if I did I wouldnt know what the codes mean. help. thanks for anybody that can put me in the right direction

Yes - we can help point you in the right direction if you get a code reading and post the numbers not someone else's interpretation of them only.
Many to most folks don't have the code readers - no surprise. So, know that many parts outlets will do this for free and give you a printout or if nothing like that available you pay for the readings at the shop of your choice.
From that you decide if you can take it on or not.
The "buddy" who says this or that and starts with a very expensive part is to be ignored IMO totally. This isn't the first common symptom of that anyway and even if bad probably not the reason it's bad so need to know more all around.
#1 - Get a code reading. Will have codes or should even if a light is not on. If not and this runs rough there's a problem getting codes to read or something. At least for now if light isn't on you can see if it lights on bulb check mode which is turn key to run without starting the engine it should light up as a test with some others,
