extreme and erratic engine idling once operating temp is reached

working hard to get it back and running again.
I have cleaned the maf and throttle body and nownit seems that even after performing the idle relearn as found online once the vehicle reaches operating temp the idle goes horribly wrong.
It seems the idle jumps from 1500 to 2000 and continues to do this. I can still rev the engine and it seems ok but once I let it go it returns to a high jumping idle. It also seems to be misfiring or backfiring not I sure.
I have checked for coolant in the oil and also did not see any bubbles in the radiator. I have not pulled spark plugs yet after I changed them to look for coolant in them.
Im looking for any help I an get I do have a check engine light but I have not read the code yet. It should also be noted that everything is removed so the air is going directly through the maf. The filter and housing are removed right now. I also have not run sea foam through yet.
