engine trouble Sign In

Hi.
I've been having trouble with my car lately. It'll honestly only start when it wants to. Sometimes, it acts like it wants to start. It'll make like the noise it usually makes, but the engine won't turn over. But if I leave it alone for lets say two hours, it'll start.
What can I do? Thanks.

It would help if we knew what kind of car this is. Also -- please only use the words "Turn Over" for food. That doesn't tell me a thing. Does the engine turn or crank but not start?

If starter cranks the engine then we need to know whether you have spark and fuel available, Hey, here to help, T

Oh, I'm sorry. It's a '93 Honda Accord. Yea, the car cranks, but it just doesn't start.

What do you mean by 'whether you have spark and fuel available'?

Sorry I sound like such a loser, but, I'm pretty new to this whole car thing. Unsure

Spark or fuel?? To test with minimal equipment pull a plug wire - put a screwdriver in the wire and hold it real close to engine ground while it cranks and you should see a spark. Leather or heavy gloves will help to no make this a shocking expierience!

For fuel a pressure test is great but you can tell of the lack of fuel by spraying some starting fluid in the air horn and re assemble it as it works as a spark/flame arrestor also and if it runs for a second or two it's a fuel problem.

There are other things that control both spark and fuel but it helps to know which one is the current demon.

Anything intermittent is a total pest to fix as if it won't stay broken then all testing may be in vain, T
