I have a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero 3.4L. Had a overheating problem checked the thermostat would not open so I changed it. then I had coolent leaking from the bottom so I checked my hoses and they are fine. So I changed the water pump. got it all togather put new coolent in it bleed the air out the line. car started looked like I took care of the overheating problem. turned it off went back out and tried too, start it and it would not crank the temperature gauge moves up and down and my battery is completely dead cant even jump it. what could cause this and im hoping I didn't do any eternal damage in the engine. I did have to loosen the drive belt a little to get the belt back on when I did the water pump any ideas

The belt tensioner is spring loaded so that shouldn't be an issue. I don't see the battery problem having anything to do with the coolant leak unless you just left a cable off or loose. Your first step is to charge and then test the battery to determine if it's good or not.
