post locked   crank no start 01 cavalier

I have 2001 chevy cavalier with a 2.2L with 147,000 that cranks but won't start. Person claims they thought it had run out of gas so they added a couple of gallons and tried to restart it to no availe.I towed the car back to my place and did my normal routine on checking everything and found worn plugs and bad plug wires so I replaced them. tried to restart car it fired ran for a short while and died, did this a couple more times same results. I have spark and can hear the fuel pump kick in but car only fires intermittently now but refuses to start and run.my only thought at this time is maybe a bad crank sensor but that doesn't explain why I still have spark and fuel. I am now at a loss. I have gone over everything again. spark is consistent and fuel pump runs everytime key is cycled. I am thinking its either a crank sensor or bad ignition module. Any help and all help is appreciated.

You don't know if you have fuel or if you have sufficient spark.

All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be tested during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment.
If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money.

Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for.

These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause.

1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on.

2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on.

3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off.

4) If all of these things check good, then you would need to do a complete compression test.

Once you have determined which of these functions has dropped out,
you will know which system is having the problem.

I have spark and I have fuel.spark is good and consistent and fuel pressure is where it needs to be.

You really need to go thru the whole list HT posted. Fuel pressure must be within spec not just some there. Does it hold also? Spark and plugs need to be right as well - plugs can be fussy by brand and if flooding really confuse it.
Next is compression up to par - if all even but low valve timing would be my next check,

plugs are ac delco dbl plats and have been regapped to factory specs fuel pressure is correct and holds compression is at 150lbs at all 4 cylinders. did leak down test on cylinders and found none.and the plugs and wires are new.

What pressure did you come up with for fuel? I didn't find spec quickly but it has to be in that range. With all that you've posted about it so far it should be at least reacting so try starting fluid to prime it for a reaction and take fuel and fuel delivery out or in the cards.

You said folks added gas. Could this be all messed up with totally wrong fuel? No joke, could someone have put in diesel instead of gas?

What's the fuel pressure?

Do you have injector pulse? How did you check it?

Is the theft light on or flashing. If it starts and stalls, could be a pass lock issue.
