2005 Dodge Durango with the "Hemi" engine and about 99,000 miles. I can be stopped at a light or running down the road and the car will excel in speed and the RPM's will be screaming but even when I try to stomp on the gas it doesn't want to drop and go to idle. It acts like it is possessed.

Check engine light on? If so, what code numbers are stored. This one is electronic throttle control (ETC). There is no cable between the accelerator pedal and the throttle valve. If there is a fault in the system, it should be storing codes.

Maybe you shouldn't drive it until you figure out what is going on and it is repaired. 5.7L hemi has a lot of power and if there is a problem causing unattended acceleration, that is a huge safety concern.

If this is an ETC issue, I am highly surprised the engine controller doesn't kill the engine or put the throttle into limp mode.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
