I have a valvetrain question. when I know each vehicle is different and i always go by the repair manual. if replacing hydraulic valve lifters I read in an auto fundmentals text book that you should adjust or set the preload which stated turn pushrods with fingers and tighten rocker arm nut until you are unable to turn push rod with fingers then go another 1/4-full turn after that depending on vehicle?? I have worked on a chev cavalier and an oldsmoblile cutlass and the Haynes manual states on both to just tighten the rocker arm nuts to a certain torque such as 22 or 18 ft Ibs can I assume that these vehicles have solid lifters?? thanks

No, you can't assume that. They are hydraulic and non adjustable.

Thank you I am doing alot of reading and learning and thanks for your help. so there are hydraulic lifters that are non adjustible? and what is the advantage of an adjustable one vs non ? thanks again for your time>

No advantage, just a different design.

Any adjustment or pre-set for hydraulic is going to be engine by engine not one procedure that fits all. Solid would be the same, engine by engine design,
