I have a fuel pump that does not work. It is on a 2000 S-10, 2.2 liter, automatic transmission. There is no power coming through the fuel pump relay. The fuses are not blown. Someone said the oil pump switch might be shutting of the fuel pump. Can anyone tell me where the switch is located?

Thanks

Rich

Re: Oil pressure switch Sign In

Who ever told you that the oil pressure switch maybe shutting off the fuel pump is 100% wrong. The oil pressure switch is designed and wired into the circuit in parallel with the fuel pump relay to be a back up means of turning the fuel pump on if the fuel pump relay has failed.
For example; on a system that is functioning properly you could unplug the fuel pump relay, crank the engine with the starter motor to build oil pressure. Once there is enough oil pressure the switch will close and supply power to the fuel pump.
I don’t know what’s wrong with your truck without a lot more information and test results from you.

There was a car that shut down with certain problems. It was a 1970 Chevy Vega and drove me nuts to figure out. Forgive me - that was 30 years ago or more!! T

Like you said Tom the Vega’s and Astra’s were wired that way to shut the pump off when the engine lost oil pressure. That was also well before computer controls like what this S10 has.

Hey - we aren't supposed to old enough to remember some of that stuff. We have way2old aboard for this stuffSmile.

If you remember the Vega it had a state of the art silicone impregnated aluminum which lasted for about two tanks of gas! Memories, T

Re: Oil pressure switch Sign In

I bought a "Haynes" manual for the S-10 and it says that a faulty oil pressure switch can shut down the fuel pump. I am going to run diagnostics and see if I get any codes.

Thanks

Rich
