Re: My 2003 chevy silverado 2500 hit railroad tracks and died Sign In

All "crank, no start" conditions are approached in the same way. Every engine requires certain functions to be able to run. Some of these functions rely on specific components to work and some components are part of more than one function so it is important to see the whole picture to be able to conclude anything about what may have failed. Also, these functions can ONLY be tested during the failure. Any other time and they will simply test good because the problem isn't present at the moment.
If you approach this in any other way, you are merely guessing and that only serves to replace unnecessary parts and wastes money.

Every engine requires spark, fuel and compression to run. That's what we have to look for.

These are the basics that need to be tested and will give us the info required to isolate a cause.

1) Test for spark at the plug end of the wire using a spark tester. If none found, check for power supply on the + terminal of the coil with the key on.

2) Test for injector pulse using a small bulb called a noid light. If none found, check for power supply at one side of the injector with the key on.

3) Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off.

Once you have determined which of these functions has dropped out,
you will know which system is having the problem.

Would any of these occur because I hit the bump ? I ran them over at a good speed.... I've been told there could be a fuel pump shut off switch ? Could that be a problem here ?

That is a systematic procedure to isolate the cause of a crank, no start condition for any vehicle with any failure.

Oh really? What was the fuel pressure. How did you verify injector pulse on that engine?

I'm getting fuel from the fuel valve ontop of the motor and I had bought a spark tester that you plug the wires from the coil into and it has so spark

So, you don't know if you have injector pulse or not...........

If you don't want to do the testing requested, maybe someone else will want to help you. I'm not.

Re: My 2003 chevy silverado 2500 hit railroad tracks and died Sign In

You never listed an engine size but if this is a 6.0, it's fairly easy.

Just unplug one of the injectors and plug a noid light bulb into it and crank the engine. If the light flashes, the injector is receiving power and trigger pulse.

You can get noid lights at most tool or parts stores for under $10 ea or $20-$25 for a whole set.. You need the one made for your car.

We take one step at a time. If it doesn't flash, use a test light to make sure you have power at one side of the plug with the key on.

Re: My 2003 chevy silverado 2500 hit railroad tracks and died Sign In

OK, that eliminates a lot of things.

Now what you want to do is unplug one of your coils and perform the same test with the noid light that you did with the injector and the same thing, if you have no flash, check for power on one of the wires with the key on.

Re: My 2003 chevy silverado 2500 hit railroad tracks and died Sign In

You do it the same way you did it on the injector plug. You haven't verified it but I am still assuming this is a 6.0 engine with 8 separate coils. Unplug one of them and plug your noid light into the plug and crank the engine.

Re: My 2003 chevy silverado 2500 hit railroad tracks and died Sign In

I figured it out ..... I have the 6.0 v8 it was a crank sensor ground wire but I just bolted it on so it misfires .. Can you find a diagram of the underneath side of the motor by the power steering

Re: My 2003 chevy silverado 2500 hit railroad tracks and died Sign In

If you truly have a crank sensor problem, then you were totally wrong about the injector pulse. The crank sensor supplies reference signal for both spark and injector pulse so when you lose the crank sensor, you lose both.

Well it's truly still not fixed .. The check engine light flashes and misfires it was coded and it sends a random misfire code

Re: My 2003 chevy silverado 2500 hit railroad tracks and died Sign In

I had it scanned at Advanced Auto and it came up with a Random misfire code. It misses when I get on the gas a lot. It idles at around 5-600 RMP's which seems very low.. It looses power sometimes when I'm driving and now the check engine light came on again. Any help?

Re: My 2003 chevy silverado 2500 hit railroad tracks and died Sign In

OK, it's time to go back to the basics that you should have started with in the first place.

What is the fuel pressure?

Re: My 2003 chevy silverado 2500 hit railroad tracks and died Sign In

No, that is not true. That engine will not run at 12PSI so get an accurate fuel pressure gauge and test it again.

Also verify what the 8th digit of the VIN# is.
