Just Put 4 New Fuel Injectors in today and Now Car Has Issues Starting Sign In

Hi all,

**I am not an auto expert so apologies for lack of knowledge or terms*

1997 Chevrolet Cavalier

My fuel injectors were leaking and I wound up replacing all 4 of them at a mechanic. The only symptom I had of this was smelling gasoline when my AC or Heater was turned on.

The very night when my car went home, I developed a sudden brand new random problem.

Previous to the fuel injector change - when I try to turn my car on - I just turn the key and the engine cranks for a second or two then "turns" on. Now, when I try to turn the car on, the engine just cranks like 4 or 5 seconds and then barely...barely comes on. Like, the engine doesn't sound like it turns on, but when I stop cranking for the 4 or 5 seconds - somehow the car awkwardly / weakly comes on. If I only crank the engine for like 2 seconds, it will not turn on at all. It needs like 5 seconds to *barely* turn on.

However, if I try to crank the engine for 2 seconds and it doesn't turn on, then immediately when I try to turn the engine on again, it goes on like normal. ADDITIONALLY, if I just stopped the car like 10 or 15 minutes ago and I try to turn the engine on again, it goes on like normal as well.

If I try to crank the engine for like a split second and then try to turn on the second time though, it will not work. It needs like a second or two for the first crank.

ADDITIONALLY (more additionallies), my car when I try to accelerate now sounds like its struggling to accelerate.

ADDITIONALLY, if I try to crank the car and I just tap the gas pedal, the car starts extremely extremely quickly.

This all started the night I got all 4 of my fuel injectors changed. The mechanic doesn't seem to know why this is happening. He gave me a new fuel filter and it did not do anything to fix the situation.

Any ideas what can be happening?

first you need to secure the services of a professional technician to assist in your maintenance needs, surly the current is less than professional. Gave you a new filter ?
Anyway start with a code check - even if the CEL is off - If known post all codes BEFORE the above work was begun.
An inspection using a scanner* would be advised as well as fuel pressure and leak down checks.

* look at codes, FT's and o2 sensor voltage at the least should get us some ideas.

Ok. I will have someone read codes later. My check engine light isn't on - would codes still come up?

Also, in the meantime, I am still open to people's ideas on what they think it could be :)

It started although poorly they worked on injection system it does not work - seams that is a place to start.
Yes you can still use a scanner even if light is off -
I would do an inspection of work area fuel rail etc then an injector leak down test as well as a fuel pressure test.

Ok, I will give the scanner a go and let you know.

In the meantime as I said, I am open to other peoples thoughts too!

And yes, it does start even cold on one try although it takes like 5 of the most awkward painful longest cranking seconds. And when it starts in this method, it doesn't sound like the engine starts.... but when I give up and stop cranking it, somehow the car still turns on in this "I am barely alive" type of sputtering way. Once I start driving it though, everything is fine - except for the weakness in acceleration. When I try to accelerate from a stop, it now sounds like its struggling to accelerate and then suddenly does a slight whiplash back in mid acceleration. Also, there is a lot of "loudness" when I accelerate now...sounds kind of like in video games with race cars when they accelerate.

Again, all of these problems that I am saying - none of them happened until the night I changed all the fuel injectors. Prior to that, everything in my car was completely normal except for the smell of gasoline when I had the heater/ac on.
