How do I find out WHAT is causing low oil pressure Sign In

Hi everybody not mechanical at all PLEAE HELP

I HAVE A 2000 FORD TAURUS SE,,,BOUGHT IT FROM A FRIEND IN MARCH CAR WAS ALWAYS CARED FOR IT HAS 144,000 MILES
IT JUST DEVELOPED LOW OIL PRESSURE AT IDLE 20 PSI,,IT HAS FINE OIL PRESSURE AT ACCELERATION,,,TOOK IT INTO A GARAGE THAT I ALSO KNOW THE OWNER,,HE SAID IT WAS NOT THE SENDER OR SWITCH AND GUESSED BEARINGS OR OIL PUMP.
CAR RUNS FINE,,NO KNOCKING,NO SMOKING,,NO TEMP GETTING HOT THE ONLY INDICATION IS THE LITTLE OIL SYMBOL COMES ON AT RED LIGHT THEN GOES AWAY ON ACCELERATION.
TO CHANGE THE OIL PUMP IS $500 THEN I DONT KNOW IF ITS THE BEARINGS ARE BAD,,,,Is there ANYWAY to find out whats causing this I cant do the work myself or any suggestions on how to improve oil pressure so I can maybe get another 6 months out of it.
thanks for any help

20 PSI is not low oil pressure. It can go well under 10 PSI at idle before there is any reason for concern.

If you have verified that pressure with a gauge, then you likely have a faulty sender. The light shouldn't come on until around 5 PSI

So you DO see an oil warning but tested at 20 and told not a sender? It's normal for oil pressure to be lower at idle RPMs vs more and if cared for really shouldn't be a worn engine yet but would probably toss that sender and begin using proper suggested viscosity of synthetic oil and might be surprised it would show a tad higher if using conventional at warm idle speeds,

3.0L OHV Oil Pressure (HOT 2500 RPM) 40 - 60 psi
3.0L DOHC Oil Pressure at 1500 RPM (after 10 min idle) (11 psi)
