Engine problems, overheated Sign In

I have a 89 chevy S-10, 4 cyl, with 200k miles on it. It was running fine , then developed a coolant leak. My son drove it and it dumped the coolant. He said it did not over heat, looking at the temp guage, but Im sure it must have. Now it will not start at all. SO all that said, new to this forum, I am open to some advice please. I am a capable mechanic, I have swapped engines in a previous truck, I do all my brakes, suspension, and so on. Im a mechanic by trade in a power plant. SO I need the truck, can not afford to buy a new one.
I know I have to replace the radiator, where I found the crack and leak, and at minimun I will need to remove the head and send it out for a valve job and have it machined flat.I still have to check the compression when I have time to do so, but I am pretty sure the head warped when it over heated. I am sure this has a cast iron block, aluminum head assembly so any over heating and the head usally will warp. While I have the head off, I guess I should change the timing chain/ belt, replaced all hoses and belts. Maybe the water pump while Im in there. Any thing else you all would suggest???

Yes, not doing it....

Don't waste time or money doing a valve job on an engine with 200k on it.
And especially one that was overheated to the point that it won't start.

It's Reman or used engine time if you're keeping this thing.

Yeah, your right, I have been thinking it over, 200k miles on the Chevy S-10 , the heater core is shot, the radio dosent work, there is no sense putting any more money into that truck. I did a quick auto trader serach and see for about 4k I can get a newer Chevy S-10 or Ford ranger with 115 or so miles and upgrade to a v6. A much better solution.

you are a capable mechanic, do some testing BEFORE condemning it, at least the compression test, THEN with the info make your plan.
