A 5.7 engine w/auto trans. When I start the engine it runs on all eight cyl. but after 15-20 seconds it starts to lose 1 or 2 cyl. Is this a carb or dist. problem? Anyway The "loosing" of 2 cylinders, misfiring would be IGNITION, check all plugs- are they firing, read the plugs wet, dry, black, tan appearance? maybe remove a plug wire one at a time - a removed wire should cause a stumble the ones that once removed cause no discernible change are the suspects !988 a long time ago I can not remember if carburetor or injected... nickwarner Veteran / Moderator Jan 18, 2014, 4:18 PM Post #3 of 3 (1216 views) Re: Engine problem Sign In This one should be TBI. That was standard in 87 on for them. What is the maintenance history on this? I'd be interested in the condition not only of plugs and wires but of the cap and rotor. With the distributor at the back of the motor on a van chassis lot of people neglected it.
