Electric fans not turning on; odometer not functioning Sign In

1991 Mercedes Benz 300TE 3.0 109K+
I have replaced the dual lead fan switch hoping that would solve the problem but it has not. The temp. gauge is working and monitoring the temperature. The fans are not kicking when it gets over 100C.

The speedometer is functioning. Neither the odometer or the trip odometer is advancing the mileage. Unfortunately I do not have a clue as to the actual mileage.

Very limited knowledge of specifics of these cars - sorry. Customer had an older one with your exact speedometer/odometer + trip odometer problem - model year 1987 but guess is similar?

The problem was found on line at a loose threaded ring at the speedometer head from wear and the fix was to tighten it without breaking anything. Required plenty of parts removed for access including the console?
So, in short was told it's so easy but takes time with a two page "how to" of what to do. I can't get parts so easy for these so declined the work as nothing but a Pandora's Box for me. Said if it's so easy then why do you need me - a bit abrupt for sure but not wanting to own that problem with a single broken part in fixing that.
Instructions came from some Benz site two pages long as I recall in paper print not a link. Can be fixed without parts if successful and identical issue which remains unknown with this specific car.
Not much help for you but seems to be a common problem you described to the letter,

Thanks.
I had a feeling that was the problem. I am not looking forward to ripping apart the dashboard to fix it.

Thanks again.

Take care of the fans first!
I don't know but might find the speedometer/odometer thing but as said just lack quick parts for dumb broken things if it happed at all getting to that stupid ring and just tighten it was all that ended up as!
As you must know MB dash parts fit nice and tight and really hide fasteners well. Hate to think something is just something you pull hard and find that's NOT how something is held and break it.
I've lost my older meaning over 20 year junkyard source locally - same owners just quit slow moving whole cars to pluck junky, dinky parts from as space is at a premium so now taking whole parts and warehousing them rather than keeping the wreck or what's left of them.
As my sign off says I'm done with this if not something while you wait now and then don't want to take on a 2 cent parts chase for weeks. Point was it's doable mostly time and shouldn't need parts at all. It's also old and I know better too,
