Hi guys
I'm planning on buying this ford cortina mk3
link deleted ................ not allowed
, but there is not starter motor so i can't start the engine...

is there a way to be able to check the health of engine/gearbox without cranking it over?

There isn't much you can tell without cranking it. You can check for stored trouble codes and look inside the oil filler for any sludge. Look underneath for any leaks too.

I'd be surprised if it even had a check engine light. You cannot diagnose the health of an engine without being able to start it up. That's unless you want to tear the engine completely down and measure everything...LOL

So, you are planning on buying this car with zero chance of knowing squat about it's drivetrain as it is now. Why may I ask?

If the car was worth a damn the seller should make it run first then check it out or pass on this type stuff unless you want parts for another exact same vehicle.

Pass on this one. Find something that you can run, test and get checked still BEFORE buying it,
