Can old gas cause truck not to start?? Sign In

Hope I don't sound to silly but I am getting desperate. My husband and I spent the last weekend putting a new "rebuilt" engine in my 1996 GMC Jimmy. We have spark and compression but it just won't start!! It has been sitting outside for about a little over a year with the fuel lines open (we live in pa so it was outside in the winter with the snow etc). We have been over the truck 10 times checking everything and all seems to be right. Could it just be the old gas or maybe condensation got into the gas tank??

The additives in gas go bad even in a year. They can turn to a jelly like stuff and mess things up. Solvents and isopropyl dry gas will probabably get you thru year old gas. Use carb cleaners and starting fluid and when it stays running burn that gas up and get new stuff in. A new fuel filter is in order even if just done!

A product called SeaFoam is excellent at a fuel solvent. I can only find it at NAPA around me. Good luck with it - you can win with this, T
