99 Pontiac Grand Am - won't start

99 Pontiac Grand Am - won't start
|
|
|
3.4ltr - turns over a couple times then acts like the battery is dead. Took good battery from my truck, still wouldn't start. Pulled starter and had that tested, it's good. What else could it be?

Won't crank? No start means the starting is cranking the engine, but the engine doesn't want to run.
Have you had the battery tested? Are the cable connections full of corrosion or the battery bolts stripped out? Do you have a volt meter?

got it back together, it started. Figured it out. A/C compressor seized up. Is there a way to bypass the a/c? This is a salvaged car driven by a 17yr old. so as you can guess, don't really want to invest a lot into it if we could do without a/c.

Assuming you mean the compressor hub bearing locked up.
You have a couple of options if you don't care about the vehicle having AC. You could install a bypass pulley kit (dorman 34217) or find a used compressor at a salvage yard and pull the clutch hub assembly off and transfer it to the old compressor, or just swap the compressors out.

Yep, 17 year old boy can do without a/c, we live in Nebraska, haha. Just found the bypass pulley at Autozone and they are reasonably priced, can you suggest a link or video on how to do? So what do you do with the a/c lines?

Yes! A few ways to by-pass compressor. Check auto parts sites for the bracket that will hold a pulley in place where compressor is. If available take compressor out, put that in but requires removing compressor.
Take a hard look and ask if a belt can work for this exact car and engine if it was OE without A/C - many can't some can and IDK which off the top of my head.
In a hurry? Get a used compressor as the dummy with a good clutch at least that's good. Disable any chance it can try to compress gas and it's just a pulley. IDK - costs of junk used ones vary wildly - gotta ask.
If that tight from what should be just bearing melted of clutch it probably can't take just a new or good clutch or fix the bearing if caught earlier you could have but takes a special puller then a cheap bearing really,

WOW - you two are fast! Nebraska - got it. MA here. Folks don't want to spend huge bucks with catastrophic failures so the by-pass or used is the choice of most at this age of vehicle. Whoop-de-do a few nasty hot days figure out something else to use or suffer,

Your going to need the refrigerant recovered unless it is empty. Most shops that do ac can suck the refrigerant out for you. Once you get the compressor removed, you just cap the lines off really good. That way if you decide you want to have AC again, it won't be full of trash.
You pretty much remove the compressor and then bolt the bypass kit in. You'll need to have the car on jack stands.
