Hey guys, I have a 98 silverado 1500 5.7 vortec. I just replaced the battery and the next day the altenator went out. Replaced that and now all of a sudden I have another problem as soon as I started it up. Idk if it's just my bad luck happening or what but it has a hard time cranking over and once it fires up it idles around 100-200 rpm. if I let it idle for a minute or if i give it a little gas it kicks up and stays at 1k rpms and does not drop back down. I Replaced the fuel filter and that didn't solve the problem. Any suggestions? possibly aic valve?

Hard time cranking? Do you mean the starter turns slowly or do you mean it has a hard time starting? Any trouble codes stored in the engine computer? You could remove the IAC motor and clean the pintle with carb cleaner to see what happens. Then use a pipe cleaner and clean the inside of the pintle bore. Keep the IAC pointing down when you clean it, so the fluid doesn't go up into the stepper motor. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I cleaned the AIC and didn't help. Starter is fine just has a hard time starting. Sometimes it does fire right up. However if I shut it off and start it up right away the problem occurs. Got a code reader on and pulled up p1345 crankshaft position (ckp)/ camshaft position (cmp) correlation.

Ah yes. P1345.............. Somebody messed with the distributor and it's out of synch. You can't blame that on bad luck. The only accurate way to set this is with an enhanced scan tool and adjust the cam offset to zero. You may have to try to get it closer by eye first. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
