95 Concorde is it worth fixing Sign In

I have a 95 Concorde with the 3.5 V6 car has 184000 miles on her.Car has been maintained and taken care of and always been dependable. This last weekend I got a call from a friend who is borrowing the car. Told me car wouldn't start.I used my monitor to check things like cam sensor and crank sensor.everything was fine.I had spark.so I used starting fluid and car would start and quit.I checked gas in tank.I added a gallon because low fuel light was on and needle barely moved.I used starting fluid again and same thing would start run and die.Did this about 4 or 5 times.I went the inline shrader valve and no pressure.I was about to give up and one more time car started and ran great.Drove car around block and it stayed running.I gave the car back to my friend and left.A couple days latter they called and said car wouldn't start and the had put 5 gallons of gas in tank.Tried the fluid again and nothing so I figure the pump is old and original and it has departed this life.My question is should I replace the pump my self or try and sell car as is and let someone else worry about the pump?I have all the shop tools to remove the fuel tank and wondered is the car worth it ?I have pump so I am looking at the labor.I asked some shops and they said between 500 and 600 for them to do the work.

Just for fun, pull up the carpet in the trunk and see if there is an access panel in the floor near the backseat. First-gen Intrepid was the same setup and they do have one. Makes life easy.

! Certain check for access panel as Nick suggested in might have. That quote with YOUR new pump sounds like they were going to take tank down thru the headlights or something?

Your testing must have been flawed for spark if it started/reacted to starting fluid.

Nice of you to loan a car but you find it basically out of fuel and dead! That's hard on fuel pumps so probably killed it. Your life - give someone a ride not a car.

You asked is it worth it. If car in general is fine otherwise, yes,

And this is likely why you need a fuel pump now.

In tank fuel pumps are cooled and lubricated by the fuel in the tank. When you run a car out of gas, it pumps a lot of air through the pump which overheats it and causes some severe wear and many times, failure when they cool off.
