89 S15 High Sierra 4.3L dies with foot on brake in drive Sign In

Help.. I have a 1989 GMC S15 High Sierra pickup with a rebuilt 4.3L V6 engine. It has about 25000 miles on it. The engine is having an issue when driving and has to sit at a red light. The engine starts to somewhat lope then dies. I have had distributor, TPS, coil, IAC, and PVC replaced. Before this I also put in new plugs and wires. Before I replaced all the above, I kept thinking it is a vacuum issue but I took some cleaner and sprayed all the hose fittings and hoses I couldn't find a thing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Your subject line is more informative for a reason.
Try this: Instead of using service brake use parking brake to hold still and see if it still dies? If not chase down vacuum leak from booster on back to source and that would be the likely problem,

Test has revealed that I have a leak somewhere in my braking system causing the engine to get disrupted and start bogging down then eventually shut down.

More to come.

Check all vacuum from source hose, check valve, grommet and booster. See if the dang thing moves unusually while a helper pushes brake pedal if it's screwed up somehow.

Basic power assist is to hold vacuum in the booster and keep it for even if engine is off it should still have a push or two with power and you feel the brake pedal firm up. That's normal. Bet it doesn't leaking vacuum unseen inside but check.

Anything vacuum leaking confuses the engine,

Did some booster testing. Pumped brake before starting, held and drop about an inch or more.. Not suppose to drop more than 1/4".. Got new booster check valve coming.. more to come.

OK - I'll just trust your testing for what. Check valves available anywhere but would do that, grommet should come w booster and YOU should really want a new hose to the vacuum supply of correct size and type - just ask, sold by the foot unless this one happens to use molded curves would be a special order by now I would think. It too must be air tight and vacuum tight such that it doesn't collapse type hose and oil and gas tolerant,

I don't know where you are getting your testing instructions from but those results mean exactly the opposite. The pedal is supposed to drop when the car is started if the booster is working properly.

I think that test is confused but still would believe a stalling engine when pushing brake (must be) in drive is a vacuum leak about booster - not certain to me IF actually the booster.

Been busy with calls and other bull. Should have said to OP that if brake fluid is found in booster that master cylinder would be at fault,

Don't be telling me what to do.

The instructions of 1/4" were ridiculous.
