88 chevy truck, no spark or fuel Sign In

this 88 chevy truck has a 20,000 mile goodwrench 350, 2wd, automatic. I was going down the road and it would bobble and take off again without slowing down. It did this 3 or 4 times. When i shut it off, it never started again.
Have replaced the following: fuel pump, filter, magnetic coil pickup in distributor, ECM.
Had the distributor module checked, checked the coil according to haynes manual for resistance, tried a working spark controll module, have voltage on both sides of coil, have power to throttle body both sides, have checked computer grounds, ect.
Fuel pump runs for 2 or 3 seconds when key is turned.

Why would I have no spark or fuel?

Modules are not able to be tested. If you look at the wiring off the pickup coil you will see it goes to the module. I have seen this many times in these trucks, 90% of the time the ignition module is the culprit.

Ok, i took module out of the distributor and into Autozone. they hooked it up to a tester and ran the test several times to make sure it worked when warm also. I'm not trying to say you are wrong, but trying to understand. Also, would that stop spark and fuel? [Cause I'm not getting any fuel from the throttle body]
Thanks for your reply

Kevin, these ignition systems are notorious for this. There is no way to test the ignition module with 100% accuracy. The pickup from the distributor provides the tach signal to the PCM. THE SIGNAL HAS TO PASS THRU THE MODULE TO GET TO THE PCM. IF THIS PART OF THE MODULE IS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY, YOU WILL HAVE NO SPARK OR INJECTOR PULSE. I have seen this about 30 or 40 times. Replacing the module has been the fix probably 90% of the time. I'm not saying you have to believe me, I'm just telling you what has worked for me. P.S. Get the module from GM or Standard brand. AutoZone modules sometimes don't regulate properly causing driveability issues.

Don't overlook the pickup coil, itself. Only guessing.
Ooops. Overlooked the fact that you've already replaced it. Sorry.

Ok, i'll give it a try. I'm laid off so depending on the price it may be a while before i can afford it. I've tried everything i could think of, so the help is much appreciated. I'll be sure to post the results.

Cool Dude, you were spot on! Replaced the module and it started right up. Thank you for all the help. Now all i have to do is replace some brake lines, wheel cylinders and the pinion yoke[ broke the bolts for the u-joint when i put it on a tow dolly to get it home]. All minor stuff compared to what i went through to get it to runMad.

Many thanks
Kevin
