What is the approx cost to have valve seals replaced on a 5.0 V8 out of a 87 F150 pickup at a shop?

thanks

For a 1987 I would consider different spark plugs as the real fix is to get the heads redone. Valve seals alone won't fix your trouble, or not for long. Hot range plugs will help and make sure the PCV system is working properly. If you have oil in your air cleaner the whole engine could be in trouble. T

My flat rate manual quotes 7.2 hours labour to replace all valve seals.
Then you are going to need the seals, valve cover gaskets and an upper intake manifold gasket. Then there would be a few shop supplies such as hose clamps, silicone sealer, coolant ect. All of that would add up to about a $100 to 120. bucks of material.
I don’t know what the shop rates are in your area but that 7.2 hours here at my shop would add up to $540.00
So you’d be into better then $750.00 by the time you would add the taxes.

Dan's right about the costs as usual. I own FOUR of those engines right now and none have ever needed valve seals. One has 208K on it and you wouldn't know it.

Valve seals alone have never fixed the problem for me. If you are convinced that's the trouble then the valve guides need to be checked and with all this work for an '87 you may be better off to change vehicles now. I don't (obviously) have it in front of me so it's guess work. You have to decide - it's your truck. T
