The car has 100,000 miles. I would like to change the spark plugs. I have been told that I need to remove the intake manifold.(V6) The car runs great. Should I change the ignition coils while I have the intake off?
Can I also get opinions on buying a cordless ratchet or just using my pneumatic ratchet?

As far as changing the coils, that is a personal choice. If you are OK with removing the manifold again in the near future if a coil fails, then don't.

As a repair shop we always recommend replacing at least the rear coils that require intake removal. If the customer refuses, they accept the responsibility and cost of removing the manifold a second time.

As far as the cordless ratchet, they are great tools and every tech owns one now. Some advice I give you is if you are not accustomed to using that particular tool I wouldn't use it on the coils. It's real easy to underestimate their torque and you really don't want to break off one of those coil bolts. You day can turn to nightmare in a heartbeat.

We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
