2012 Toyota Corolla S making strange noise when I start engine.	Sign In

Hi everyone, I’m having issues with my 2012 Toyota Corolla S. It has about 105,000 miles. Not sure what the engine size is.

It started about a week ago. In that video you see, I inserted my key and started the engine. Then it will make that sound and it will be on and off even while I’m driving throughout the day.

I’ve never heard this before so I would appreciate it if any folks out there more knowledgeable than myself could give me their two cents.

At least learn what engine you have!
I did hear that IDK noises or what was just 10 seconds OPEN THE HOOD for noises, do more than once or make it happen.

It's ok there is something you can do just the check. About this old some will have heat shields or a cover near starter motor try, engine off and cold use a rubber hammer or hose and tap on exhaust shields, parts, pipe if exposed enough. Then go plain look but if hoisting it have pro help to support car properly to get any kind of under it see if the flex pipe is intact. Wiggle it by hand with a really good glove some will be sharp steel wool mesh of sorts can cut you to bits.

That's just some but seriously when you say you don't know which engine is in it, can't read the sticker (unless missing) that says it right there I doubt you'll be doing this so just get a shop to take a look the GOOD news it does the noise, the pro ear will find that in no time in person with tools if need be,

That sounds like it could be a broken Catalytic Converter.
