2008 Pontiac G5 radiator fan doesn't spin while idling Sign In

Hey y'all, I have a used Pontiac G5 that has had a problem ever since I first got it.
Whenever it idles, the temperature goes higher and higher, and when you look under the hood, the radiator fan doesn't spin at all
I would think this is a problem with the radiator fan itself, however, the fan does turn on when I turn on the A/C and when I put the car in park and rev the engine to 1500 RPM for about 5 seconds (it idles at around 800 RPM)
And I don't think it could be the coolant temperature sensor either because the coolant temperature reads accurately on the dash

This has been quite an enigma for me, I would appreciate it highly if anyone has a solution to it

First, the dash temp gauge uses a different sensor than the computer so that comparison won't mean anything.

The fact that the fan comes on with the AC means the circuit is good and the computer has control.

Just how hot will it go if you just let it continue to idle? Does it hit red?

Unfortunately there isn't an engine temperature meter on this model
Instead it shows the temperature on a digital screen on the dash.
Therefore I don't have a good sense of what it's ideal temperature range is
But the hottest I've ever let it get is 215°F, surely it should have turned on by then?

There is nothing wrong with your car. That fan isn't even programmed to come on until around 225- 227deg.

Just let it run and you will see the fan come on around then. That is completely normal.

You're in no danger unless it passes 235deg

So far it's normal IMO also but do keep an eye on it that it will come on not just with A/C. If you really thought it was too hot just a bit more than that it would be a problem. If suspect it's wrong feel air with heater on floor only it should be warm/hot to feel by hand not cold feeling or outside air temp give or take a little,
