2006 ford crown victoria police interceptor engine problems Sign In

Hello I have a 2006 ford crown victoria police interceptor. It has a 4.6L v8. i got this car about three weeks ago. when i first got the car there was a slight jerk at idle no engine codes were thrown. i drove the car home and from 40 to about 50 mph the car would jerk if i leveled off at speed like holding at 45 for the speed limit. The check engine light then came on. i checked the code when i got home it was only throwing one code p0300 multiple random missfire. i replaced the spark plugs, spark plug boots and spring that connect the coil to plug, fuel filter, oil and filter, and air filter. i drove the car again and same problem check engine light came on again got it checked at the local auto parts store the same code was thrown. p0300 they checked to see were the missfire was. the computer said multiple coils were bad. i replaced all coils with accel super coils at that time i also replace maf sensor as well as the tps. when i finished those repairs i drove the car again still same problem, same check engine light code. i dont know what else it could be. Any help would be very appreciated me and my wife are tired off spending money on it hoping its something simple i am over looking. I thank you for your time.

The computer said nothing of the kind. It doesn't tell you parts are bad. It merely records data that it sees and the technician has to determine the cause. Those part time clerks at Autozone are not technicians or anything even close.

With the money they conned you out of for those coils and other unnecessary parts, you could have paid a real shop to diagnose it for you correctly.

Where's 'way2old' about now? Whatever. You've thrown a lot at this for nothing already and most for nothing. Get a pro diagnosis now but for cheap you could check for plain vacuum leaks and fuel pressure.

No doubt too late but was this (probably 95% sure) a former municipal hard use vehicle? You asked for it IMO and didn't even make it home before troubles started - checked it out well didn't you?

May have been a great price up front but bet you'll pay thru the nose to make it dependable for the long run,

T

i checked the coils with a multi meter and two were reading low about .6 if i remember right i replaced all of them to be on the safe side i didnt trust the person at the parts place got the coils online. yes it was a municipal car and probably had the crap drove out of it i was planing on doing a full tune up when i got it anyways because of the abuse im sure it has seen. it was checked for.vacuum leaks at my local shop. thanks again for the input and time.

Need to take it to a shop that can access mode$06 to figure out which cylinders are misfiring.

They can also do a cylinder power balance test, if they have the right equipment, to figure out which cylinders are missing, if it misses at idle enough.

Yes, they would, although they would not be the only ones. There are many qualified independent shops also. I would stay away from the national chains though.
