Hi, I have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. Yesterday on my way to work I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary with the car until I started to make a left turn and in the middle of the turn my car shut off(hard to turn steering wheel) and then came back on. Then on my way back from lunch the display said shutting of a/c to protect engine so I looked and saw the temp was in the red and car was about to overheat. Parked car for a couple hours and filled with water. The reservoir and radiator were completely dry. Something is leaking, but I don't know much about cars and I'm short on cash. Today reservoir was empty again. I filled it but car can only drive about 10 min before it starts to overheat again. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Where is water pump located? which hoses should I check ?

First off, water is not what is used in a cooling system. A 50/50 mix of coolant and water is what you use. You need to have the cooling system pressure tested to find the source of the leak.

If this came on that fast with not warnings this leak must be obvious and a huge puddle on ground running or not. I say OK to plain water to pressure test to force it leak cold even bet this would show up.

In filling you really can't just fill it so easily just pouring in coolant so if overheating in 10 minutes for real it's still way too low and I suspect your idea of "overheat" means a real steam kettle so expect more than the original cause of being low on coolant,
