2004 Mazda Tribute 3.0L V6 starts with cold engine Sign In

Hey all,

My wife's car is getting a bit on the old side with about 150,000 miles. It's been a really solid SUV for us during this time. Anyway, we've recently noticed a problem with starting the car at times. Because it starts most of the time, I feel confident this isn't an electrical/battery issue. However, it does seem like it's less likely to start when the engine is warm. Often times, if you wait 15 minutes it will cool down enough to start again.

Any ideas on what I should be looking for?

Thanks,

Kory

? When it does this does engine feel tight, crank slower till cooler?

This isn't common to me on anything near this new actually but was usually either battery cables lacked effective gauge to deliver power, engine was tight from being excessively hot or not so often high compression due to carbon build up.

You could check voltage drop between cables at battery and compare at other ends especially while happening and shouldn't be much different. If much loss change out that cable or both for the best you can find.

Otherwise if not starting at all for that long you would check all functions for an "all crank no start engine" to see what's not in spec or missing - spark, fuel pressure for example but tend to doubt that right now,
