2003 Chevy TrailBlazer Idle goes up & down when AC turned on Sign In

2003 Chevy Trailblazer, 4.4L, 170,000 miles, I had 2 ignition coils go bad, replaced them both and then when I turned the AC on the idle drops so low that it stalls the engine are almost stalls. I don't think the coils had anything to do with the idling problem? but it started the idling problem after I replaced the coils. Is their some kind of sensor that works with the throttle body that may be my problem? Is my throttle body need to be replaced? Looking for some help. Thxs in advance.

First, i would advise you to change your user name before the spammers get it and have a field day with it.

First eliminate all vacuum or air leaks in the system. You may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. That should help stabilize the idle. If it still has a problem, replace the IAC.

Hammer Time, First I would like to thank you for your advise about my user name (already took care of). Also thanks for your input about my problem, had I looked a little further in this site I would have seen that you had given the same advise several times before, again Thanks and I will follow your suggestions about starting with Cleaning the throttle body...Smile

Hammer Time, I took your advise on Nov. 4th about engine idle Problem I had when AC is turned on. Cleaned Throttle Body 1st and it fixed the up and down idle problem. Thxs. I was told by a repair shop that I needed to replace the entire Throttle Body, your advise saved me a lot of money... I still have a miss, spark plugs are new (gap checked) 2 of the 6 ignition coils are new, Also before I cleaned the throttle body it had a code of p1523 in the memory. (not sure what that code is yet) Any advise would help. 2003 Chevy Trailblazer, 4.2L engine, 170,000 mls.

If you clear that code does it return? That code basically means the throttle wasn't in the correct position when the throttle motor was de-energized. If it does come back after clearing, you may have a mechanical problem with the throttle body or some type of obstruction causing the throttle plate to not be in the correct position during a de energized state.

If you have a misfires going on, it should set some type of misfire trouble code. You may need to have someone with a high end scanner connect to it and monitor misfire counters to see which cylinders are acting up. Once you know which cylinders are skipping than further troubleshooting can determine why.
