? General if all was done properly is just maybe drive pulley usually the harmonic balancer may have moved out of place and belt isn't in plane with other pulleys?

I have check out the lining up of all the gars the belt rides on. only the tensioner is off just by little. about 2mm from the balancer. does the balancer carry an trust washer?

No, if the balancer is off, it is broken and has to be replaced. You need to replace whichever pulley is out of line.

OK - this is an involved job if you do it all. Any of the parts if bad could cause a disaster like that as it's an interference engine to boot. Valve damage likely and surprise just another belt it runs worth a damn.

I really don't know how bad these can crash if belt timing is lost with engine running.

Is it running now at all or did it with subsequent new belts?

I really think you need to go back after a compression check and look at every part and detail involved.

Not many Subarus ever came my way for this - just routine work so can't say all the layout off the top of my head. Balancers drive the other belt(s) where you see it. Not sure if that slips out some if it would effect crank gear?

When you state it is throwing the belt, what exactly do you mean?

Can you take a picture of the front of the engine with the timing cover removed and the new belt installed?

I wasn't paying attention. I thought he was talking about a serp belt.

Thank goodness it isn't a DOHC boxer "throwing" the belt.

thanks for all the advices. The belt has bin extensively damage the second time it did it, the belt roped around the balancer and damage the timing cover. one of the things I notice is that the tensioner does have a little in and out play not sure if it is normal. I had to order the parts and it takes about two weeks to get to Belize.

You should replace the pulleys.
You should also replace the hydraulic tensioner with an OEM part. Maybe the tensioner is bleeding off causing the belt to loosen up.

Try running it with the timing belt covers you should be able to see where it is walking off or rubbing something
