2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA 4.7 LTR V8 PICKUP 172,000 MILES ENGINE RUNNING LIKE ITS IN LIMP MODE
I'll start from the beginning here, never had a lick of engine trouble with it fairly well maintained since new.
Drove into my driveway from an hours trip hauling a RV Trailer came to a stop in the driveway and noticed it was idleing rough went to put it in reverse to back the trailer in and she started to stutter like it was in a limp mode not firing all the cylanders.
No check engine light on.
Next day had a mobile mechanic come over with his snapon computer reader and he tells me its showing an intermittent misfire on cyls 3 and 5.
Says may be the plugs or the cd packs, Paid him and he left.
I replaced all 8 cd packs fired her up same symptoms
I had fairly new plugs in it that's why I did the cd packs 1st So now I put in all new plugs
Same symptom when I started it.
Now I drive it down to his shop he puts the reader on it again and its still tellin him cyls 3 an 5 intermittent misfires, Then he tells me he goes into the fuel injector mode and can control the amount of time I believe he said that the injectors stay open as a test he increases that, He says the mis fire is gone even when he hits the gas petal and comes off idle no misfires, tells me I need to flush the injectors 100 PLUS DOLLARS
I don't have the cash to do that right now so I buy 3 bottles of Berrymans injector cleaner and a new fuel filter cause he says that could be a problem too
I change the fuel ftr. put in 3 cans and I have a bit less that a 1/4 tank of gas in the truck at this time.
I take her up on the highway and run her out at 50-75 MPH I stop a few times and start from a dead stop nailing the gas petal , drive it for about a hour but every time I come to a stop I can feel its still idleing rough and doesn't accelerate well its still acting like its not firing all cyls and or smoothly.
I OHM out the cyl's in question and a couple other fuel injectors and they are all 14.9 on the OHM meter;
I just don't know at this point and I don't have much cash to take it to another mechanic shop to pay them to diagnose maybe wrogs ???
It ha s had oil/ftr chgs regularly fuel ftrs, spark plugs , its got all new plugs now and coil packs.
The check engine light is not on and hasn't been, It did flash when I was kickin the petal down 1 time on my run on the highway when I put the 3 cans of Berrymans in but did not stay on it just flashed.
Its never had a timing belt replaced but I was told if it was the belt it would act differently.
Does anyone have any legitimate ideas for me to pursue ??? Its my only transportation and I sure need to get it straightened out quick.
Thanks for readin this I'll be checkin back to see if anyone answers.Pirate

Look, there is no such thing as "mechanic in a can". Nothing you add to your gas tank is going to fix anything beyond the wallet of the guy that sold it to you. If you have a clogged injector, a professional pressure cleaning is the only chance you have of escaping replacing the injector. still, that may or may not work. In the end it may need new injectors.

yES I KNOW THERES NO REPAIRS IN A CAN PER SAY, I'M WONDERING IF IT IS THE FUEL INJECTORS THATS ALL.
I'VE ALREADY BEEN TOLD TO CHANGE COIL PACKS ,PLUGS, FUEL FTR, AN MONEY IS REAL TOUGH TO BLOW IN THE WRONG DIRECTIONS.
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP BUD.

OK, shut the cap lock off................

I can't tell you if he is right or not. He is the one that checked the car, not me. Yes, it is logical that if ignition is eliminated, fuel injectors would be the next suspect.

  some thoughts-
I always ask- is vehicle STOCK?
New plugs- what brand ?
On those cylinders IDed as misfiring how do plugs look wet black?
A fuel pressure leak down might help - I know easier said than done.

Today it all about seeing what the PCM is seeing so a scanner is critical.
what are the fuel trims?
With any current codes - freeze frame data.
