I have a 1998 chevy malibu with the 3.1l engine with 150,000 miles that when I start it, it runs 3-5 seconds and stalls out. I had the car parked like 3 days while I found and replaced the subframe and when I was done it had this problem. I had a buddy that works at a shop tell me it was the fuel pump, changed the fuel pump same problem.Fuel pressure was 35-40 psi before changing fuel pump(manual says it should be 41-47 psi)Have not checked the fuel pressure since changing the pump. please help

Security light on or flashing while your starting the engine?

You need to find out what the fuel pressure is now.

You can also try this..... disconnect the oil pressure sender and see if that changes anything.

Why was the subframe replaced? Did you support the engine when you dropped the subframe?

ThE Subframe Was Replaced Because It Was Rusting Out And The Steering Rack Was Only Attached By One Of The Two Mounting Points. And Yes The Engine Was Supported While The Subframe Was Out Of The Car

Check live fuel pressure NOW w new pump. Check area messed with for anything disturbed to get subframe out also.

All checks for spark and fuel pressure attached while it does run and see what drops out.

This welded frame bit was out of the car when repaired/welded? Not my thing but if electric welding there are likely procedures to ground things so electrical stuff doesn't get a jolt and kill it or even just heat (oxy/acet) to get it out did anything get burned - wires - anything? Seems like it's stuck now in just start mode excusing some things just while cranking?? Guesses but worth a look and the checks,

T

Subframe Wasn't Welded It Was Replaced.. But I'll Check All Electrical Connections Near The Subframe

Great - a better fix. I'll stay out but look as said for things disturbed in doing that. Still shat happens and could be something not involved??
