1997 suburban low fuel preassure n hard to start Sign In

1997 chevy suburban,454ci. when engin is cooled down hard to start, turns over and over and over then finally starts. After starting an odor of fuel real bad. after stopping at store for just a minute and starting right back up only after about a few min. Then it starts right up like a champ. Engine light come on and off seems to alway be off any time around auto store, so no idea what code could be. did check fuel preasure and was just under 50 psi while moter wqas cool and contiueing to just turn over, and steadly increasing till just under 60 psi starts, and theres that fuel odor. Did change fuel pump. Pump bought at advanced auto parts. Found out preasure regulater is located under intake, so relly dont wat to tear that deep into this without some one with experience leading that way. also did change filter and pump at same time.

You can have those codes read any time as long as you haven't disconnected the battery. They are stored in memory.

A check easy check you can try to see if you do in fact have a fuel problem.

When it's cold & going to start hard, just cycle the key from off to on without cranking about 3 or 4 times, leaving it on for a few seconds. The try to start it. If it starts right up its time to grab the fuel pressure gauge because you're losing pressure somewhere.......

If I was a betting man. I would say you more than likely have either a hose or a pressure regulator leaking . You can test it the proper way with a gage as Sidom suggested . Or, the upper intake is not that hard to remove . Once off you can cycle key on/off DO NOT CRANK MOTOR and you should be able to see leak..
